Some state officials are proposing a new idea to make use of abandoned mine lands.
The Department of Environmental Protection is conducting a study to look at the feasibility of using some of those abandoned lands as a place for solar energy projects.
DEP officials say there’s over 200,000 acres of abandoned lands where coal, oil and natural gas was once mined. They believe that lands once used to supply energy, could continue in that role with the development of solar energy.
