Slippery Rock University will celebrate Veterans Day with a special ceremony Friday.
Decorated veteran Pennsylvania State Rep. Jake Wheatley Jr. will be the keynote speaker during today’s ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in front of the Russell Wright Alumni House on the campus of SRU.
Wheatley survived a ‘perfect storm’ of deadly combat in the Persian Gulf as a Marine. The lawmaker from Allegheny County said he accepted the invitation to speak in Slippery Rock in order to thank veterans and advocate for them and their families who are struggling with the aftermath of war.
During today’s ceremony, Slippery Rock University cadets will raise the colors, lay a wreath at the memorial and fire a 21-gun salute. The SRU Marching Pride will play taps.
