Butler County voters will head to the polls tomorrow and experience a different voting procedure than in recent years.
Shari Brewer is Director of Butler County’s Bureau of Elections said the new ballots will be on paper.
“You will be issued a paper ballot when you get to the polls. The ballot has ovals on it, which you color in,” Brewer said. “You fill-out the ballot and put it in a manila folder for privacy. And then the voter themselves takes it over to the scanner, and scans the ballot.”
This procedure is similar to the punch-card system of years ago where voters put the ballot into the box. In this case, the ballot will be inserted into the scanner which will keep the ballots secured in a sealed and locked box. Voters are reminded to read and follow all instructions carefully. With the previous electronic system, voters would not be allowed to mistakenly cast votes for too many candidates in a particular race. With the new machines, voters will have to complete a new ballot.
If voters would like to see how the new system will work, a video is posted to the Butler County website.
