Hundreds of thousands of hunters are expected to head into the woods on Monday for the first day of firearms deer season in Pennsylvania.
The state game commission says about 45 percent of the season’s buck harvest is usually taken on opening day. Most local school districts extend the Thanksgiving holiday by one day to allow for students to hit the woods.
The first part of the season is for the hunting of antlered deer only, with the antlerless deer hunt starting on Saturday, which is almost as popular as opening day.
