Officials with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development wrapped up Small Business with a visit to Zelienople last week.
Acting Secretary of the DCED Neil Weaver took a walking tour of downtown Zelienople with Mayor Thomas Oliverio that included the Kaufman Tavern and other local businesses.
“Zelienople is so thankful for what the DCED has done for us. It has been very transformative. It’s been an amazing ride over the last 10 to 12 years,” Zelienople Council President Mary Hess said. “From the very first grant that we never thought we would get to moving along with our parking lot, Main Street, and additional things–it’s really excited our business community, our residents, and everyone.”
The state currently has over a million small businesses that employ about two and a half million workers. Secretary Weaver talks about ending his week traveling across the state in Zelienople.
“I can’t think of a better place to end my trip this week. It’s great,” Weaver said. “There’s such a sense of community here.”
Resources available to Pennsylvania small businesses through the DCED and a network of partnerships include Small Business Development Centers, the PA office of International Business Development, the Ben Franklin Technology Partners, and the PA Business One Stop Shop.
