With spring right around the corner, a charitable organization is again using the daffodil as a symbol of hope as part of an annual fundraiser.
Emma Crave, the Butler Relay For Life community manager with the American Cancer Society, says the daffodil is the organization’s symbol of hope.
“We’re making sure the community is aware of the hope that the American Cancer Society and the community can bring to each other,” Craven said in an interview with Butler Radio.
Daffodil Days is an opportunity for everyone to join the American Cancer Society in saving lives, celebrating lives and leading the fight for a world without cancer. Dollars raised through the effort support groundbreaking research, patient services and other lifesaving programs.
Daffodil Days begin on Monday, March 19 and will continue through Sunday, March 25. Orders that were placed in February will be delivered on Tuesday, March 20 and can be picked up at St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church.
Money raised from the flower sale in Butler County will stay in our community to help with several different programs benefiting local cancer patients and survivors.
“We have our “Road To Recovery” program, which is free rides for cancer patients to and from treatment. We have our “Look Good Feel Better” program, which helps patients get a support group and learn how to wear wigs and apply makeup when they’re going through treatment. We also have “Reach to Recovery” which gives a woman who is going through breast cancer a support person who has already been through the process that will talk her through it, give her support and motivation,” she said.
Through the daffodil, the first flower of spring, this campaign brings a symbol of hope to cancer patients and those affected by the disease.
Anyone who did not have the chance to pre-order can purchase a bunch for a $10 donation, potted minis for $15, or for $25, donors can send a “Gift of Hope” to local hospitals or nursing homes.
Flowers will be sold at Butler Memorial Hospital, Butler Health System’s Crossroad Campus or at the Benbrook Surgery Center & Benbrook Professional Building beginning Wednesday, March 21st.
