On this Cyber Monday, the state Department of Banking and Securities is offering some advice for safe online shopping.
Investor Education Coordinator Katrina Boyer encourages Pennsylvania consumers shopping online to use strong and different passwords for every site they use. She also says to look for ‘https’ to ensure the site they’re using is secure, and to use a credit rather than a debit card when paying.
If you’re shopping on an unfamiliar website, Google the site along with the words “reviews” or “scams.”
After you make your purchase, carefully review your credit card and bank statements.
