The Pittsburgh Pirates were swept by the Chicago Cubs after a 16-6 loss Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Pirates pitching tied a team modern-day record by allowing 47 runs in the series. Trevor Williams allowed seven earned runs in 2-1/3rd innings yesterday.
Kevin Newman had a hit, and is now batting .318 this season. Bryan Reynolds had two hits and is hitting .322. Pablo Reyes drove in three runs for the Bucs, who take today off. They host Seattle for three games beginning Tuesday.
Starting pitcher Chris Archer has been shut down for the remainder of the season because of tendinitis in his right bicep. He will not need surgery. Archer finishes the season with a career-worst 5.19 ERA and 3-9 record.
