The Chicago Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 6-5 victory last night at Wrigley Field. The Pirates outhit the Cubs 9-8, but left 12 men on base in the game. Josh Harrison, Jordy Mercer, Francisco Cervelli and Starling Marte had two hits each in the game. The Pirates remain 2-1/2 games back in the National League Wild Card race after the St. Louis Cardinals lost to Milwaukee 3-1.
The New York Mets defeated the Miami Marlins 5-2 to win their third game in a row, and have jumped over both the Pirates and Marlins, and are now two games behind the Cards.
The Pirates are off today and host Milwaukee Friday.
The Pirates traded left-handed pitcher Kyle Lobstein to the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday for another left-hander in Zach Phillips. Lobstein made 14 appereances with the Pirates this season. Phillips pitched the entire season this year with the Orioles top farm club.
