The Cranberry Township Community Chest is planning to get underway soon with the project for 2016.
Cranberry Township Supervisor Bruce Mazzoni says they are focusing on updating the Miracle League baseball field in Graham Park. The Miracle League field is designed for kids with disabilities to be able to play baseball.
The field at the ballpark is 10 years old and the surface needs to be repaired. At the same time, CTCC wants to build a playground by the field for kids with all abilities.
Mike Sherry, a Cranberry Township resident, took great initiative to bring the ball field to the area after seeing such a field in Tennessee. It took a half million dollars to start the ball field.
The improvements to the ball field, along with a new playground, are expected to cost at least $600,000. Mazzoni says the CTCC is closing in on the $500,000 mark but the remaining money is still needed.
At least five counties and 80 plus communities are involved in the park in some way, with kids playing ball from many areas. There are now multiple Miracle League ball fields throughout Pennsylvania.
