Today is Groundhog Day, which means all eyes will be on Pennsylvania’s most famous rodent to see if he will predict an early spring or six more weeks of winter.
The festivities surround a German legend that says if Punxsutawney Phil casts a shadow on Feb. 2, winter continues. If not, spring comes early.
In reality, Phil’s prediction is decided ahead of time by the group on Gobbler’s Knob, a tiny hill just outside of Punxsutawney.
Records dating back to 1887 show Phil has only predicted an early spring 18 times- including last year.
