The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in overtime last night. Sidney Crosby scored a goal for the fifth consecutive game and this goal was the game-winner just 19 seconds into the overtime period. It was his 28th goal of the season. Patric Hornqvist tied the game in the third period with his 25th goal of the year. Matt Murray stopped 28 of 31 shots as the Pens defeated the Devils for the first time this season.
The Pens win gives them 94 points, one better than Columbus who beat Calgary 5-1 last night. The Pens are two points in front of Philadelphia. The Penguins victory allowed Washington to clinch a playoff spot.
The Pens have back-to-back home games this weekend. They host Montreal Saturday at PPG Paints Arena for a 7pm face-off. (Pre-game on WISR is 6:30pm). Washington comes to the arena Sunday night for a 7:30pm face-off. (WISR pre-game is 7pm).
The Pens recalled Josh Jooris from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to fill in as fourth-line center last night. Derick Brassard is out day-to-day with a “lower body” injury suffered in the loss to Detroit Tuesday.
