The Penguins blew a 3-0 lead against the Washington Capitals last night, but when it counted the most, Sidney Crosby came up big.
An overtime 4-3 win secured home-ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs for the Pens after Crosby scored on a breakaway backhander that he put past Washington goalie Braden Holtby.
Matt Cullen—who’s played in every game this season—continued his hot streak with two goals, including a shorthanded goal in the 2nd period.
The other goal came from the swollen eyed Connor Sheary, who was still sporting more than a black eye after a high stick he took two days earlier.
The Pens clinched second place in the Metropolitan Division with the win last night. They will host either the New York Rangers or Islanders in the first round. Both are tied at 99 points apiece.
The Penguins will wrap up the regular season Saturday in Philadelphia to take on the Flyers. Faceoff is at 3:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on WISR 680 AM.
