The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 last night. Sidney Crosby scored the game-winning goal during a 5-on-3 power play in the second period. The goal was his 33rd of the season. Evgeni Malkin netted his 25th goal in the third period. Matt Murray stopped 29 shots on goal.
The victory moved the Pens to within three points of first-place Washington in the Metropolitan Division. They are off until the stadium series game this Saturday at Heinz Field against Philadelphia.
The Pens lost defenseman Trevor Dailey during the game with an unknown injury. He joins defensemen Ollie Maata and Justin Schultz who remain idle with injuries.
