The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Rangers 5-4 in overtime last night at Madison Square Garden. The Pens jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but had to score with less than a minute remaining in the game to force the overtime period. Captain Sidney Crosby scored after the Pens had pulled goaltender Matt Murray in order to add a player on offense. Evgeni Malkin won the game less than a minute into the overtime. The Pens were penalized six time during the game.
The Pens are now 4-2-1 overall, and one point behind New Jersey and Columbus in the Metropolitan Division. They continue their road trip in Florida for back-to-back games this weekend. They visit the Florida Panthers Friday and Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday.
