Moraine State Park rangers and volunteer firefighters spent a couple of hours Sunday night searching Moraine State Park’s Lake Arthur after someone reported seeing a flare in the sky.
Officials were initially concerned that the flare could have been coming from a distressed boater. The unknown caller thought he saw the flare around dusk.
Park rangers used their boat to search the lake and then called in the Prospect and Unionville volunteer fire departments to assist.
Prospect Fire Chief Ken Wilson said nothing was found and no boaters had been reported missing so the search was called off around 9 p.m.
“There was nobody out on the lake,” Wilson said Monday morning. “It was pouring down rain.”
