No one was hurt in a house fire Wednesday morning in the city of Butler.
Several passersby called 911 about 9:30 a.m. to report they saw smoke coming from a two-story, red brick home in the 200 block of West Penn Street, across from Emily Brittain Elementary School.
“There was heavy smoke coming out of the second floor windows on the left side, front of the house when we arrived,” Butler City Fire Chief Chris Switala said.
The fire started in an upstairs bedroom, according to Switala. No one was home but there was a dog inside.
“The dog was rescued before we got there by a passerby,” Switala said.
Switala says there is significant damage to the home’s second floor and attic.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
