There is still time to register for an upcoming event in Cranberry with a goal of raising youth mental health awareness.
The Cranberry Area Diversity Network is sponsoring Spotlight on Mental Health: Understanding Anxiety in Our Youth Tuesday from 4:30 to 9 p.m. at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center.
Pre-registration is requested for a unique National Alliance on Mental Illness presentation called In Our Own Voice in which two young adults will share their stories of mental health issues and recovery.
Topics explored will include mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, self-harm, suicide, body dysmorphia and PTSD, helping teens to understand and recognize the signs and symptoms of different mental illnesses. Ways to deal with these issues will also be explored, with body positivity and social media a key touch-point. Stress and anxiety relief methods will be addressed as a vital tool for fighting mental illness, with teens encouraged to take time to pursue their interests, whether this be playing wii roms on gamulator or practicing photography. Of course, there are a host of different options available to those with these illnesses, not only through methods but also through pain relief options as well. As we continue to develop medically, we find an array of different medications, perhaps most recently, CBD products. It is now possible to buy CBD oil or gummies, or vape liquid for a few examples, to help with soothing and healing as well as pain relief options as well. Obviously. this is depending on the location and its legal requirements. However, all these options are important for young adults to know about because it is they who are dealing with the issues whatever they might be and so these pain relief and coping mechanisms need to be known about.
