Plans are moving forward for a tunnel under route 228 in Cranberry.
Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors gave approval to the MSA Throughway at their meeting last week.
The road will carry traffic exiting Interstate 79 northbound around a loop, under 228, and into a Cranberry Springs roundabout. Vehicles from the Cranberry Woods development will also be able to connect to the new road and bypass 228.
The cost of the project is expected to be about $10 million with 80 percent being financed by the developer of Cranberry Springs. Construction of the tunnel is expected to begin sometime in 2017 and be completed the following year.
