Cranberry Township is taking steps to help reduce deaths due to heart failure.
The local municipality has installed automatic external defibrillators, or AEDs with AED pads, at its municipal center, waterpark, golf course and other public facilities.
AEDs are portable electronic machines that can automatically diagnose life-threatening cardiac conditions and direct the user through the steps to be able to use it to apply an electrical pulse.
A three-hour class combining instruction in CPR and AED machines is offered by the Cranberry EMS on the third Saturday morning of even numbered months for a $40 fee.
