February is Special Needs Month in Cranberry and the township has lots of events planned.
According to Dave Hutner, program manager for Cranberry Township, “All abilities are welcome and we’ll cater the events to whatever they are. The idea is to get out there, to actually get active and have something to do with people that understand what the special needs are and really enable the special needs individuals to push their limits as opposed to sitting back and being passive about it.”
Events:
-The Special Needs Action Group will hold a dance for ages five and older February 13 from 7 to 9 p.m.
-The Recreation Alliance of North Pittsburgh is sponsoring a free Winter Family Fun Day Saturday February 20 from noon to 2 p.m.
-The first of five weekly sessions of fitness and mobility will be held February 21.
-A series of creative programs for kids called Elements of Art begins February 27.
Volunteers are always welcome for any of the activities.
“Volunteers can be doing anything from being a buddy to an individual…to maybe serving refreshments…to helping decorate. For instance, for one of our dances, maybe getting out there and dancing with them, whoever happens to be out on the dance floor. It’s interactive, that’s what we want, to create a fun environment for everybody that’s there,” Hutner explained.
Registration is necessary. Visit here for more information.
