Cranberry Township has been awarded a large state grant to help pay for an ambitious infrastructure project.
The PA Department of Community and Economic Development announced that $2,875,000 will be put towards the nearly $15 million MSA Thruway project.
When completed, the MSA Thruway Project will feature a 150-foot underpass connecting the Cranberry Woods Business Park and the Cranberry Springs mixed-use development. Officials believe the thruway will help ease traffic along Route 228. Vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles will be allowed to use it.
The project is expected to create 4,000 temporary construction jobs and 2,300 permanent full-time jobs and promote economic development in the area.
The Transportation Infrastructure Investment Funds program, which provided the local grant, is administered by the Department of Transportation and the Department of Community and Economic Development.
“This is great news for Cranberry Township as it moves forward with this important community development project,” said Senator Hutchinson. “The MSA Thruway is a prime example of intelligent community planning, as it will provide a coordinated approach to reducing traffic congestion in the Route 228 corridor, while spurring economic development and job creation.”
