Crafton wins truck race/Sprint Cup Saturday night/Fab Four and more

No practice was no problem for Matt Crafton on Thursday night at Kentucky Speedway. After rain washed out practice and qualifying, the two-time defending series champion was given the Number-1 starting spot based on truck owner points. He earned the win by leading forty-three laps en route to his ninth career victory. The race was red-flagged just five laps from the finish after contact with David Gilliland sent Ben Kennedy’s truck sailing into the catch fence at the end of the frontstretch. The impact knocked a hole in the fence and bent one of the supporting poles. Kennedy walked away from the scene, and was treated and released from the trackside care center. NASCAR called the race based on the large amount of time it would take to make repairs, leaving Crafton to celebrate his fourth win of the season. Rookie Erik Jones finished second with Ryan Blaney third. Crafton continues to lead the championship points by 20 over Tyler Reddick.

The X-Finity Series will race at Kentucky tonight. Kevin Harvick won last year’s race.

The Sprint Cup Series race is Saturday night and can be heard on WBUT 1050am and at wbut.com beginning at 6:30pm. Brad Keselowski is the defending race champion. The teams are still waiting to get a feel for the new aerodynamic rules package, as rain washed away a second day of planned practice Thursday. They are scheduled to hit the track this morning at 10:30am.

Lernerville Speedway returns to Fab Four Racing tonight beginning at 7:30pm. After last week’s rainout, Lernerville has announced the Boss Wingless Sprint cars will return to the Action Track as part of the Steel City Stampede in October.

The nation’s oldest sanctioning body, the Auto Racing Drivers Club, brings their exciting brand of Midget racing to Mercer Raceway Park this Saturday, July 11th. The small, but powerful wingless racers will be joined by five other divisions tomorrow.
