The Butler County Salary Board is giving roughly 150 nonunion employees a one-time payment to make up for the raise that they did not receive at the start of this year.
The one-time stipend will amount to 2 percent of the full and part-time employees’ annual salary. It will cost the county about $140,000.
Chairman of the Butler County Board of Commissioners Leslie Osche said the allotment is meant to both recognize employees for their work in trimming the 2016 budget, as well as help manage raises and salaries going forward in order to avoid a long-term challenge in the future.
Commissioner Kevin Boozel voted against the payment, stating he didn’t believe it would fix salary issues long-term.
Butler County Controller Ben Holland was not at the meeting. A representative in his place stated Holland wished to abstain from the vote.
In the past, nonunion employees typically received what the county had called a cost-of-living adjustment. They last received a COLA in 2015.
