The Butler County Salary Board voted unanimously Thursday to hire two additional, full-time 911 dispatchers.
These are the first full-time, permanent county jobs created so far this year.
Emergency Services Director Steve Bicehouse says the new positions are needed because of a 24 percent increase in 911 calls. The increase is mostly attributed to the county now handling Butler City’s 911 calls. The city previously handled and dispatched its own calls but ceased doing so last June.
The new positions should help eliminate overtime costs. Controller Ben Holland said if overtime costs are reduced and monitored, the new positions should be revenue neutral, not costing the county any additional funds.
