We’ve talked a lot about the drug crisis in our county and a part of that discussion is the topic of recovery. Next month there’ll be a special event to focus on just that.
The event is on August 31st.
“It is National Opioid Overdose Prevention Day,” Ruthane Durso, Supervisor of the Behavioral Health Programs with the Butler Health System, told our newsroom. “And September is National Recovery Month.. so we thought we could marry the two. We want to educate and remind people that recovery happens.”
There will be two different sessions with this event. At 11 a.m., Ken Montrose, known nationally for his writing and training, will be at the Government Learning Center on West Cunningham Street.
“He will talk about how recovery and healing is possible,” Durso said.
The second session will begin at 12noon in Diamond Park.
Also Jason Synder, the special assistant to the governor, will be talking about the Center of Excellence Initiative.
