The Butler County elections director will head to Harrisburg next week to participate in a panel with state lawmakers to discuss the issues plaguing Pennsylvania’s election process.
Director Shari Brewer said one of the biggest issues she will be discussing is the declining number of poll workers.
“There’s just not enough poll workers to man the polls,” Brewer said.
Another issue is the cost of the equipment that it takes to run elections.
According to Brewer, the first time the county bought the equipment it was purchased through a grant. Now, it’s on the county has to come up with the money.
“For Butler County, it would probably be between $2-$3 million, and that’s every 10 to 15 years,” she said.
At this point, state lawmakers are just trying to gather information. There is no proposed legislation on the table at this time.
