Butler City Councilman Rick Schontz is stepping down from his position at the end of July.
He made the announcement during Thursday’s Butler City Council meeting.
“I’ll be resigning my city council post effective July 29,” Schontz said. “A situation with family and having to move onto flatter ground into a ranch home outside the city has been the motivation with this. I have to think about the family first.”
Schontz has served as a council member since 2010. He is currently the Director of Streets and Public Improvements with a term that expires in 2018.
Schontz looks back fondly on his time participating in local government.
“I truly am going to miss doing this job,” he said. “I’ve been blessed by being given this opportunity by the voters and working with every one of you has been great. I consider everybody a friend. The city is in great hands for the future. I’ll be watching.”
The process for filling the position on council will begin with accepting letters of interest after Schontz has stepped down. A new council member will be appointed within 30 days after that.
