People passing through the borough of Slippery Rock on weekend evenings will now be able to indulge in the offerings of food trucks.
On Tuesday, borough council voted 5-2 in favor of amending an ordinance that would allow food trucks and other mobile vendors to operate on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays between mid-April and November 1 from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Slippery Rock Mayor Jondavid Longo was a big proponent of the effort, which he asserted would “breathe new life” into downtown Slippery Rock and welcome new businesses.
Opponents of the measure voiced concerns about safety since the trucks will be operating during popular drinking hours.
Food truck operators will need to buy a temporary business license to sell in town. The fees include a rate of $75 per day or $200 for a three-day weekend, according to the ordinance.
