Butler City Council is recommending amending their zoning ordinance to allow for a developer to create a local senior housing facility.
Council agreed last night to a motion that adds multi-family dwellings as permitted uses in the C-2 zoning district in locations that do not abut Main Street.
Councilwoman Cheri Readie told council about an informational meeting she attended Thursday, along with the new county commissioners and The Woda Group.
Woda is working with the state on plans that would preserve the exterior of the former Pullman Standard Office Building on Hansen Avenue in Lyndora, while modifying the interior to accommodate supplemental housing for seniors 62 and over.
The project is expected to cost $14 million. It is too early in the process to know when construction would begin.
