Six staff members were taken by ambulance to Grove City Medical Center on Monday after they were sickened by a suspicious substance at the State Correctional Institution at Mercer.
The workers were searching a cell and packing inmate property around 2 p.m. when they either came into contact with the substance or someone who had contact with the substance.
The five corrections officers and a doctor were treated at the hospital. Five of the staffers were released on Monday, but one employee required the administration of the opioid overdose reversal drug Narcan and was admitted to the hospital.
Grove City Medical Center was shut down for about two hours Monday night, per protocol.
