A woman from Connoquenessing has been charged with theft of Social Security money.
A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted 56-year-old Pattie Smith on two counts.
Between December of 2013 and February of 2017, Smith is accused of knowingly receiving Supplemental Security Income benefits to which she knew she was not entitled. Over the same period, Smith is accused of concealing her husband’s continued presence in her household.
Smith could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of half a million dollars- or both- depending on the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history.
