The 5th Annual Connoquenessing Creek Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday.
Volunteers will focus on a 12-mile stretch of the waterway, starting in Harmony (Butler County) and ending in Fombell (Beaver County). This is the first year the cleanup has spanned two counties.
A group called the Allegheny Aquatic Alliance began cleaning up the creek in 2012 after it was rated the second-most polluted waterway in America.
In five years, volunteers have successfully removed over 200,000 pounds of garbage from the creek, including 2,000 tires.
*Volunteers should meet at 8am or after at Live Out Baptist Church in Fombell. If you can’t make it on Saturday, another clean-up is scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 10.
A lunch, snacks, beverages, work gloves and a t-shirt is provided.
