Two Butler County waterways are in the running for the 2020 PA River of the Year.
The Connoqueneesing and Buffalo Creeks are a part of the five finalists for the annual award.
Terry Brady of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says this competition helps raise awareness about state waterways.
“Pennsylvania is truly blessed with waterways,” Brady said. “And just about every waterway has improved because people have gotten behind them.”
The organization that nominated the waterway wins a $10,000 grant to be used for river of the year activities.
