A local company will be testing their community early warning system tomorrow and later this weekend in Jefferson Township.
Mark West, spokesman for II-VI, Inc. told our newsroom, “The siren will be going off and it will have two tones. The first one’s going to be a pulsating tone, on-off, on-off, like that. People are supposed to just shelter in place. Then the second a minute later will have a solid tone, which means all clear. It’s a steady tone which means the test is over.”
The test will take place at noon Friday and again at noon on Saturday.
According to West, II-VI makes a chemical gas and the test is done in case of an emergency with gas escaping.
“The likelihood of this ever happening would be very, very remote. But in case it did, we want the community to know that we had a gas escape and keep their windows closed and stay indoors until its dissipated,” West explained.
The test of the warning system has been done annually for a number of years.
