A crowd gathered in downtown Butler on Wednesday evening to remember the 23 men and women in the county who committed suicide in the past year.
Twenty three empty pairs of shoes were lined around the fountain in Diamond Park to represent the lives lost. The youngest victim was 17 and the oldest 84, and all but four were men.
The Butler County Suicide Coalition organized the remembrance rally. The group provides suicide prevention efforts throughout the county.
This is national suicide awareness week.
