The Butler County commissioners are happy with the attention the county’s bridges have been getting.
The board praised the head of the county’s bridge department Kevin Gray during a meeting Wednesday for his work to address structurally insufficient bridges since he took over the program eight years ago.
“I just want to recognize Kevin for the work he has been able to do in narrowing the list of structurally deficient bridges in our county,” Commissioner Kim Geyer said. “He has received a list of accolades from the state for his work.”
In 2011, there were roughly 40 bridges in the county that were deemed structurally insufficient. Following two bridge repair projects that will take place this year, there will be 25 bridges remaining on the repair list.
In five years, Gray said fewer than 20 bridges will need repaired or replaced.
“You’ve saved our county taxpayers a lot of money,” Geyer said, noting that Gray has been instrumental in encouraging collaboration to get bridge rehabbed or replaced, which- in-turn- costs less.
There are 134 bridges in Butler County.
On Wednesday, the commissioners approved bridge repairs to the Wylie Road Bridge in Clinton Township and the Brickyard Hill Bridge in Mars.
