The Pirates and Blue Jays tied 11-11 Sunday in Grapefruit League play. Pirate starter Gerrit Cole went five innings and allowed just one run. He did not walk a batter and struck out five. Pirate reliever Tony Watson allowwed five earned runs in two innings of work. Antonio Bastardo allowed four earned runs. Alen Hanson had a big day for the Pirates. He had three hits, including two doubles, scored a run and stole a base, and also threw out two runners at home from his left field position. He is trying to make the team as a utility player.

The United States defeated the Dominican Republic 6-3 Saturday to reach the World Baseball Classic semi-finals. Pirate outfielder Andrew McCutchen doubled in two runs in the eighth inning to seal the victory. The U.S. will meet Japan Tuesday.
