Gerrit Cole became the second Pirates pitcher this year to throw a complete game in the Pirates 10-1 win over the Seattle Mariners Wednesday.
Cole only gave up three hits while striking out six batters over the nine innings that took 94 pitches to complete. It was Cole’s first career complete game at the major league level.
Both Andrew McCutchen and Jung Ho Kang snapped cold streaks last night, driving in a combined seven runs. A three-run home run by McCutchen gave even more buffer to the already comfortable lead. Kang meanwhile drove in four going 1-4.
The Pirates are off Thursday and will be in Milwaukee Friday to start a six game road trip. Manager Clint Hurdle announced after the game yesterday that Steven Brault will make the start Friday, which will be Brault’s second major league start.
