The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Miami Marlins 3-1 last night in Florida. The game came down to a pitcher’s duel between Jose Fernandez of the Marlins and the Pirates Gerrit Cole. Fernandez did not allow a run over seven innings and picked up the victory. He allowed three hits and did not walk a batter, while striking out six. Cole allowed all three runs in the seventh inning and took the loss. Gregory Polanco drove in the Pirates only run in the ninth inning.
The Pirates visit the Marlins again tonight at 7:10pm. Jon Niese will start for the Bucs.
