One of the founding members of the Butler County Council of Governments is stepping down from his position in the organization.
Jeff Smith is resigning from the position of Executive Director effective the end of this year. Smith has held this position since 2009 and before that, he served as president of the COG.
In a letter to the organization’s board, Smith pointed out the many successes the council achieved in over eight years of existence including increased inter-municipal cooperation and intern programs to benefit young people. The COG also saved members over $500,000 as a purchasing cooperative and launched a municipal health insurance program in 2011 that has saved local municipalities nearly $3 million.
The next meeting of the Council will be held Tuesday, January 14th.
