A march is planned for Wednesday afternoon outside the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania headquarters in Pittsburgh for some to voice their opposition to the council’s decision to close more than half of the region’s Girl Scout camps.
Four of nine overnight camps will remain open, including Camp Redwing in Renfrew. Officials announced the five camp closures in January, citing growing expenses and lack of use.
Camp Redwing in Butler County will be the only remaining camp to accept troop camping over the summer.
Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania covers 27 counties and has just over 22,000 girls as members.
