Members of the Clearfield community are asking the Butler Area School District to sell them Clearfield Elementary.
At a meeting Monday, the school board heard from at least five residents who talked about the importance of the school to their identity as a community.
Several people spoke about the history of the building and others mentioned plans to turn the building into a community center that could be used by all as a gathering place.
District Solicitor Tom King advised speakers to either get Clearfield Township supervisors involved or form their own non-profit organization and then present a plan to the board.
