The Clearfield Township Community Center group has decided against making an offer on their own for the former Clearfield School.
Chairman Dan Mennor spoke for his group when he said “We, the board of the Clearfield Community Center, would ask that the Butler Area School District and School Board go ahead and sell Clearfield School. Hopefully selling the school like you did with the other three that are closed will also create a tax base for our community, our school district and our county. Hopefully it will bring some jobs to our township and keep our property values intact.”
Mennor addressed the Butler Area School Board during a meeting at the building Monday night. No written offers or bids have yet been made for this property.
Mennor hopes that the individual or business that does eventually purchase the building is willing to work with the group to still allow the facility to serve the community.
“Maybe with the right owners we could still have a community center here at the school rent or lease. If there is any input as to a buyer, which evidently there is none right now, would you be willing to still work with Clearfield Township and with the community center about who they are and what they are and how they’ll benefit our school?” Mennor asked.
The average of the two appraisals for the property received by the district is $236,000.
