By the end of the year trash collections will end in Clay Township and discarding of trash will be the responsibility of residents.
The Waste Management land fill facility in Clay Township will be closing by the end of 2024 due to the land fill being filled. Waste Management has applied for permits within Butler County and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to change the facility to a transfer facility.
Although Waste Management intends to stay in the area, officials with Clay Township have announced they will not pass any trash ordnance or come to an agreement with any company in the foreseeable future.
Instead they intend to have residents discard trash at their own discretion. Officials with the township did say that if they notice that people are not correctly discarding of trash they will come to an agreement with a company for pick up.
They have shared pick up information with potential sanitation companies but have not discussed cost.
