Work on the 2018 Butler City budget continues but it will include at least a small measure of relief for taxpayers.
Director of Accounts and Finance Councilman Mike Walter announced during Tuesday’s Butler City Council meeting that the city’s street lighting tax will be reduced by 1 mil to a total of 2.25 mils. That means the average city homeowner would pay about $8 less, according to the city clerk.
A 2.5 mil tax was first enacted two years ago to help address the city’s rising electrical expenses. Last year, the tax was raised by .75 mils to a total of 3.25 mils which resulted in the collection of an additional nearly $50,000 for the city.
The rest of the city’s 2018 budget is still being assembled but more details are expected to be made public at November’s meetings.
