The City of Butler is considering an action to help low income members of the local community.
City Treasurer John Grenci proposed to council that the city raise the per capita tax exemption from people making $5,000 yearly to $10,000, which is the current exemption for the Butler Area School District.
This change is only expected to impact a maximum of 25 to 50 city residents but many of those would likely be elderly with limited incomes.
Because of the low number of people expected to be affected by this change, the cost to the city is expected to be relatively minor as well, possibly as much as $500 less in total revenue.
