The City of Butler is close to being ready to move ahead with plans to hire a new fire chief that will be shared with Butler Township.
At their meeting on Thursday, Butler City Council is expected to authorize the City Clerk to initiate recruitment action to fill the position by advertising locally as well as more widely online.
Council is also expected to finalize the agreement between the city and the township. The city is taking the lead on the hiring process since the majority of the new chief’s time is expected to be spent in the city, but the township is finalizing their portion of the job description as well.
The position is expected to be posted until a candidate has been chosen. The city hasn’t had a fire chief since 2016. The new chief would run the city’s full-time department and oversee three volunteer departments in the township.
