For the first time in four years, Butler City Council will not need to raise taxes in order to achieve a balanced budget for next year.
Property taxes are expected to decrease in 2018 by 1 mill. This is coming from a reduction in the city’s street lighting tax. A conversion to LED lights has led to lower electric bills.
The decrease is only a small relief for taxpayers. The average city homeowner will pay about $8 less.
The preliminary budget will be available for the public to look over for a month before Council votes to finalize plans in December.
