Butler City officials set the parking rates for the new downtown Centre City garage.
Council unanimously approved rates of 50 cents per half-hour and $1 per hour at parking kiosks at the garage, and $1 per hour at gated pay stations within the four-story structure.
The rates came at the recommendation of Butler Parking Authority Manager Jim Chiprean. Current parking rates around the City of Butler are 50 cents per hour.
Butler City Council also approved contracts with two companies to administer collection services for the garage. One will deal with the kiosk system on the first level and the other will service the paid gate stations, which will be affiliated with the new Springhill Suites Hotel that sits next door. The 3C Payment USA Corporation will receive 3 cents per transaction, up to $2,000. Amano McGann’s administration fee is yet to be determined, up to $100 per month.
Chiprean says that if things go well with the new garage, the new technology and parking rates could be expanded to other city lots.
“If the gate system continues to work as well as we hope it’s going to work, we will install gates maybe in the Tier garage and install kiosks in our key parking lots, especially the Diamond lot, which is our number one revenue parking lot,” Chiprean said.
Permits are currently being sold for spaces in the Centre City garage for $60 per month. The garage sits on East Cunningham Street and will be open Nov. 1.
